Flooring in Allen, TX
Most Allen jobs are whole-home replacements in houses people intend to stay in for another twenty years. That makes the real question not what the floor costs, but how you live in the house for the fortnight it takes to put it down.
About 15 minutes south of our McKinney shop.
What we see in Allen
Living in the house while the floor goes in
Allen is a stay-put suburb. Twin Creeks, Bethany Lakes, Watters Crossing, Suncreek and Star Creek were built largely between the early 1990s and the late 2000s, a lot of the original owners are still in them, and the work we get called for is the second floor covering rather than the first — builder carpet worn through in the traffic lanes, entry ceramic that dates the house, and oak that has been walked on for twenty-five years.
Which means nearly every Allen job is a whole-home job in an occupied house, and the logistics matter as much as the material. Done all at once it is faster and cheaper, and it forces you out for the duration. Done in phases — public rooms first, bedrooms second — it is slower and costs a little more in repeat mobilisation, but you sleep at home and the dog stays put. Neither is right for everyone. What is wrong is finding out on the first morning that nobody discussed it.
The other Allen constant is tear-out. Pulling 1990s ceramic off a slab is the loudest, dustiest and most expensive part of these jobs: the tile comes up in pieces and the thinset under it has to be ground back to bare concrete before anything new goes down. That deserves to be its own line on a quote, because a bid that looks unusually cheap has generally assumed it away.
How we work here
What Allen projects usually need
Phased whole-home installs
Sequenced room by room so you can stay in the house, with a written order of work agreed before we start.
Tile tear-out and thinset removal
Dust-controlled demolition and grinding back to bare slab, quoted as its own line rather than buried in a square-foot rate.
Furniture handling
We move and protect what is in the room. Nothing gets stacked in a garage for two weeks without a plan for it.
Stairs and landings
Treads, risers and landings matched to a new downstairs floor and done as part of the same job, not left for later.

Every surface
All six services, across Allen
Most whole-home projects use more than one material. We install every surface, so transitions line up and one contractor stands behind the whole floor.
Questions
Allen flooring questions
Do we have to move out while the floors are done?
Not usually. A whole-home job in an occupied Allen house is normally phased, so we take the public rooms first and the bedrooms after, and there is always part of the house you can close the door on and sleep in.
The exception is sanding and finishing solid hardwood. The finish needs air movement and curing time, and the fumes are real even with the low-odour waterborne products we use, so plan to be elsewhere for those particular days.
How long does a whole-home replacement actually take?
For a typical two-storey Allen house, plan on three to five working days once the material is on site. Tear-out and slab preparation take about a third of that and the installation takes the rest.
Phasing around an occupied house adds a few days, and ceramic tear-out adds more than most people expect. We give you a day-by-day sequence with the quote rather than a single finish date.
Is it cheaper to do the whole house at once?
Per square foot, yes. One mobilisation, one delivery, one crew scheduled continuously and no repeated setup. Four rooms now and four next year usually costs more in total than eight rooms now.
It also guarantees the material matches. Ranges get discontinued and dye lots shift, and a floor bought a year apart rarely meets cleanly at the transition even when the product name is identical.
